Information for Easement Landowners

As our easement landowner partner, we want to support you in caring for your land in a way that maintains and enhances the protected conservation values that make your property so special.

Information for Landowners with Conservation Easements

If Jefferson Land Trust holds a conservation easement protecting your property, that means that we have assumed the legal obligation to ensure that the terms and purpose of the easement are honored in perpetuity.

We do this primarily through annual in-person monitoring visits and by providing land management guidance that’s shaped by each unique conservation easement. As our easement landowner partner, we want to support you in caring for the land in a way that maintains and enhances the protected conservation values that make your property so special.

We’re a Resource for You

We encourage landowners to consider the Land Trust as a resource for information on caring for your land. We can connect you with professionals specializing in native landscape design, forestry, stormwater management, landscaping for wildlife, and many other areas of specialization.

Additionally, you can check out the Land Management Resources page using the link below for information about other resources that may be available to you.

Annual Monitoring Visits

We visit each easement-protected property on an annual basis to monitor its condition and to ensure the continued observance of the easement terms. Each year, we’ll send you notice of the monitoring visit in advance.

We encourage you to join us during our monitoring activities. However, if you don’t wish to or can’t join us, we can complete the inspection on our own. Our team is also always happy to meet or talk over the phone outside of scheduled monitoring visits if you have questions or anything else you’d like to discuss related to your easement.
